New Chick-fil-A at Covell and Sooner Sets October 8 Opening

EDMOND — A new Chick-fil-A at Covell and Sooner roads will open at 6 a.m. Thursday, October 8, adding another restaurant to the growing commercial area just west of Interstate 35.

The restaurant, at 4200 E. Covell Road, will celebrate opening day with a “Moove-In Party.” Customers wearing cow spots—whether a full costume or a spotted accessory—can receive one free entrée or kid’s meal, with redemption available inside the restaurant or through the drive-thru.

Greg Harjo will serve as the local owner-operator, making Covell and Sooner his third Chick-fil-A in the Edmond community. The opening will bring him to the company’s published limit of three traditional restaurants per operator. Chick-fil-A starts operators with one restaurant and selectively offers additional locations to those who have demonstrated success.

The restaurant’s announced hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with dine-in, drive-thru, carryout, delivery and catering services.

“It’s exciting to see the growth happening in North Edmond, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving a community that has meant so much to our family over the years,” Harjo said in the opening announcement.

The expansion comes more than three decades after Chick-fil-A first opened in Edmond. The restaurant at 33rd Street and Broadway began serving customers in 1995, according to a retrospective published by Edmond Business.

Harjo’s own Edmond history began in 2010, when he opened the restaurant at Second Street and Bryant Avenue. An Oklahoma City native, he had previously worked in Chick-fil-A’s information technology department in Atlanta before becoming an operator in Chandler, Arizona.

He expanded to Interstate 35 and 15th Street in May 2017. That restaurant introduced dual drive-thru ordering lanes, a two-story indoor play area and combined indoor and outdoor seating for 180 customers.

The original 33rd and Broadway location underwent its own substantial change in 2020. The old building was demolished that July and replaced with a new restaurant, reconfigured parking and drive-thru lanes, and an indoor play area. Its reopening was announced for December 3 of that year.

The newest Chick-fil-A joins a cluster of restaurant development along Covell Road. Nearby Whataburger, at 4132 E. Covell Road, celebrated its grand opening August 22 with an Edmond Chamber ribbon cutting attended by local officials and members of the Edmond Memorial High School cheer squad.

Panda Express is also part of the development on the south side of Covell, west of Sooner. An April 2025 city planning report described a proposed 2,784-square-foot restaurant within Covell Crossing, adding another national chain to the intersection’s expanding dining options.
