Free of charge, in print or online, commercial or not. We would rather this reporting were read than owned.
What you may do
- Run the text of any published news or opinion article. There is no fee and you do not need to ask first.
- Run our photographs with it. Pictures made by this newspaper are covered on exactly the same terms as the words.
- Trim it. Cut for length, correct obvious typographical errors, and fit the capitalisation, punctuation and spelling to your house style — then say that you did. The terms are set out below.
- Run it commercially. A paid publication may carry it on the same terms as anyone else.
What we ask in return
- Do not change what it says. Trimming is fine; altering the meaning, the findings, the context or the quotations is not.
- Say so if you edited it. “Edited for length” or “edited for house style” is enough. A reader should be able to tell they are not reading it exactly as we ran it.
- Credit Oklahoma State Capital Media, and link to OklahomaStateCapital.com. In print, where a link cannot be clicked, the address in text is enough.
- Run our photographs with their captions. The caption is usually what makes a picture evidence rather than decoration, and it carries any credit that is due.
- Do not imply we endorse you, your publication or anything else you carry.
A credit line that satisfies all of this: “This story was originally published by Oklahoma State Capital Media at OklahomaStateCapital.com.”
What is not included
Images credited to somebody else. Our own photography is covered by the licence. A good deal of what appears on this site is not ours: television screengrabs, film stills, campaign and social-media graphics, mailers and documents sent to us, archive material, and pictures published here under another photographer’s Creative Commons licence. Those rights belong to the people who hold them, and we cannot hand on what we were only lent.
How to tell which is which. Read the caption. If it credits a photographer, a broadcaster, an agency or another publication, the picture is theirs and is not yours to run. If it carries no outside credit, the picture is ours and the licence covers it. Where a caption leaves you unsure, ask — editor@oklahomastatecapital.com — and we will find out and tell you rather than leave you guessing.
Nor does it cover our name, our masthead or our logo, which stay ours.

The licensor is Oklahoma State Capital Media, LLC, which publishes The Oklahoma State Capital and holds the copyright in this work. Article text and our own photography are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International.
Limited editorial changes permitted
In addition to the permissions granted under CC BY-ND 4.0, Oklahoma State Capital Media permits republication with cuts for length, correction of obvious typographical errors, and changes to capitalization, punctuation and spelling required by a publication’s house style. These changes must not alter the article’s meaning, findings, context or quotations. Any republication containing such changes must disclose that it was edited for length and/or house style. Translations, rewrites and other adaptations require prior written permission.
Tell us where you ran it
This is a courtesy, not a condition. The licence above applies whether or not you fill this in, and nothing happens to you if you do not. We ask because we have no other way of knowing where this work travels, and that is worth knowing.
