President Donald Trump, while traveling aboard Air Force One, to visit California, has signed executive actions reinstating the Mexico City Policy and reinforcing the Hyde Amendment, preventing federal funds from being used to support abortion domestically or internationally.

Since its original creation by Ronald Reagan, The Mexico City Policy, which prohibits funding for foreign organizations that promote or perform abortions, has been a point of contention between administrations, with Republican presidents reinstating it and Democratic presidents rescinding it.

The Biden administration had introduced several measures to broaden abortion, including military travel reimbursements for abortions, VA hospital services, and policies facilitating access for pregnant minors in federal custody.

Trump’s latest executive orders cite these policies as federal overreach. The administration emphasized that taxpayer dollars should not be used to support abortion-related services against the conscience of American citizens.

Trump’s move aligns with his strong pro-life stance, which has earned him significant support from social conservatives. His decision to announce the new policies comes on the day of the annual March for Life in Washington D.C.
