"Track and Tax" is the critical nickname applied to Oklahoma's per-mile road usage charge pilot program, authorized under 2021's House Bill 1712 and administered by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The term was coined by 2022 legislative candidate Karmin Grider to describe a plan that would track motorists' mileage and charge a fee for each mile driven.

Program history

The pilot asked 445 volunteer motorists to simulate mileage tracking and fee payment, backed in part by a $1.9 million federal grant within a roughly $4 million effort, and was promoted through the website FairMilesOK.com. A task force's December 2023 report recommended moving to a broader second phase, but the legislation's Senate sponsor, John Haste, along with House sponsor Brian Hill, announced in late 2024 that they would not advance that phase. In October 2025, OSC reporting found that the FairMilesOK.com domain had lapsed and been taken over by foreign operators redirecting it to gambling content, with links to the defunct site still active on ODOT's own website.
