Monty Piercy is the District 3 Logan County Commissioner. His district hosts the majority of the county's wind-energy development. He became commission chairman in January 2025, succeeding Mark Sharpton, who nominated him for the role.

Wind energy development

Piercy has supported Invenergy's "Wagon Wheel" wind turbine project throughout its rollout across his district, pressing the company's representatives in 2023 to estimate the property tax revenue it would generate and later noting that the related Cimarron Link transmission project had already secured roughly 30 parcels for a new line running from the Oklahoma Panhandle to eastern Oklahoma.

Fiscal decisions

Piercy moved to approve $616,000 in federal housing funds for a Habitat for Humanity-linked rehabilitation project in 2024, a proposal fellow Commissioner Charlie Meadows opposed. He also supported the county's purchase and renovation of the state's Division Street DHS building using federal ARPA funds. When Meadows introduced an unannounced $14 million sales tax increase less than 48 hours after losing his 2024 re-election bid, Piercy rejected it, telling Meadows the timing was wrong and that state legislators, not county taxpayers, should address funding shortfalls. In December 2024, Piercy and Sharpton blocked a last-minute Meadows request to add a road to the county's inventory, with Piercy noting that Meadows had "two weeks left in office" and would be obligating his successor to new maintenance costs.

Commission leadership

As chairman, Piercy has pushed back on using the commission's public meetings as a forum for political advocacy, interrupting Meadows during a 2024 meeting to say he wasn't sure the commission "ought to use this for a political platform" after Meadows used the floor to campaign against a fire department tax measure.
