Mark Sharpton is the District 1 Logan County Commissioner. He previously served on the commission beginning in 2002, lost re-election in 2014 amid controversy over a tax-increment-finance (TIF) district benefiting a Love's Travel Stop development, and returned to the seat in 2023. He served as commission chairman through 2024, handing the role to District 3 Commissioner Monty Piercy in January 2025.

Wind energy development

Sharpton has repeatedly voted to advance Invenergy's "Wagon Wheel" wind turbine project in northern Logan County, approving a preliminary road use agreement in 2023 and numerous road-crossing permits through 2025, despite personally describing himself as opposed to wind turbines. By late 2024, he told a constituent presentation that he was "against all of this stuff" but had found no statutory mechanism for the county to block the related Delta Plains transmission corridor.

County office relocation

Sharpton was a lead advocate for using federal ARPA funds to purchase and renovate the state's former Division Street DHS building as new county office space, dismissing resident "grumblings" that the money would be better spent on road improvements in the fast-growing southern county.

Fiscal positions

In September 2024, Sharpton and fellow commissioners rejected outgoing Commissioner Charlie Meadows' proposal to raise the county sales tax from 0.75% to 1.75%, citing poor economic timing. He also supported expanding the county's jail healthcare contract with Turn Key Health Clinic to include mental health services, and backed a 14-day countywide burn ban while expressing skepticism it would have much practical effect.
