GUTHRIE, Okla. — Dalton Fashik, a Republican candidate for the Oklahoma House of Representatives, said he was alarmed by a display he encountered during a recent visit to the Guthrie Public Library.
In a Facebook post, Fashik shared a Facebook presentation and described walking into the library and immediately noticing a podium of about 30 books positioned near the entrance under a sign advertising “tough topics.” The collection included titles, some of which appeared targeted at children, such as Queer and Trans Identities, The Big Book of Sex Consent, Beyond the Gender Binary, and Boys and Sex.
“These weren’t new releases but controversial books the staff put right up front for children to see,” Fashik told The Capital.

A Facebook post by House District 38 candidate Dalton Fashik questions Guthrie Mayor Adam Ropp about a display at the Guthrie Public Library.
Fashik, who is among several candidates vying for the open District 38 seat being vacated by the term-limited John Pfeiffer, R-Orlando, tagged Guthrie Mayor Adam Ropp in his post but said he has not received a response.

Cameron Smith oversees the Guthrie Public Library in his role as Director of Library Services.
Fashik, in comments to The Capital, said he believes it is important for Christians, especially in the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, to show courage by speaking out on issues that affect children.
As of publication, Ropp had not responded to Fashik’s comments. Ropp has also been outspoken about his Christian faith, often taking traditional conservative stances in his public remarks, including a presentation at last month’s Charlie Kirk memorial at the Fairmont Creamery, as covered by The Capital.
The House District 38 seat, which covers portions of Logan, Noble, and Kingfisher counties, will be on the ballot in 2026.
The issue appears potentially relevant to Fashik’s campaign, as the Guthrie Public Library is a recipient of state aid. Library board minutes from earlier this year reflect that the library received $15,696 in state funding, a likely reference to funds passed through the Oklahoma Department of libraries.
