A giant step forward will soon be made for east side residents of Guthrie who drive Industrial and Pine roads. The roads, which have long been in a state of disrepair, are now slated for paving.

On Monday, September 11, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation should award a bid on the nearly one million dollar project to pave Industrial from Division to Pine and Pine from Industrial south.

Two contractors bid on the project, with the lowest quote offered by Mcbride & Sons. For $950,000, the Guthrie owned company seems to have the inside track on the job. Once the contract is awarded, the contractor is allowed 180 days to complete the job. Guthrie City Manager Bret Jones estimates that work will begin on or around November 1.

The progress of the project has been delayed because Southwestern Bell needs to remove certain utility lines in the area. Due to miscommunication by the city's previous engineering firm, SWB was not informed of the problem until recently. Lack of communication delayed the improvement project by several months.

Logan County has already paved Industrial east from Pine past the East Oaks housing addition. Once the state project is completed, east Guthrie and Logan county residents who have become used to a horrendous drive across town should be allowed ease of access to their homes.

During the September 5 meeting, the City Council also finalized an agreement between Guthrie and Logan County Commissioners for paving West Industrial. No time period was given for the completion of this project.
